A FAMILY’S PASSION FOR WINE
The Yiaskouri family tradition in the production of quality wine goes back to the previous centuries in 1878. Our great-grandfather, Stylianos Yiaskouris began the wine-making tradition by planting vines from indigenous grape varieties on the family’s land, lovingly crafting wine and carrying it in terracotta amphoras on his donkeys on a slow journey to Limassol to market his wine.
The vineyards, located on the slopes of Pachna Village where the terroir is ideal suited to viticulture, were inherited by our grandfather Damianos Yiaskouris. His ambition was to grow quality grapes – key to producing great wines. Through the implementation of the latest viticultural technology at the time, and strict vineyard management, he succeeded.
In the 70’s our grandfather’s passion for wine led him to expand grape cultivation by planting also international noble grape varieties such as Shiraz (Syrah), a French grape variety perfectly suited to the Pachna terroir. In 1980, during the ‘Wine Festival’ Yiaskouris wines received the First and Second Award in the competition for ‘Village Wine’, an achievement repeated over the next three years.
The success story continued with bottled wine. With the help of his sons, Christakis and Doros, our grandfather established the Yiaskouris Winery in Pachna Village surrounded by the family vineyards. Well-equipped to accommodate modern vinification methods and bottling, under controlled hygienic conditions, the new winery further contributed to the quality of the Yiaskouris wines.
Many decades of accumulated expertise in viticulture and vinification passed on from generation to generation, in combination with an inherited passion for fine wine, resulted in the production of the modern wine series of Yiaskouris Winery.
Today, the fourth generation of the Yiaskouris family is becoming a part of the Yiaskouris wine production heritage. We are looking forward to continuing the family tradition of producing great wines for the years to come.
